Gotta Touch the Bases on Co-ed Walk Rule
In a media league game on Opening Day, a male batter walked in front of a female batter and, like the rule states, he is allowed to take second base.

The batter jogged toward first base. Then, a few feet from the bag he did a turn and went on to second without ever touching first. The opposing team noticed and figured it had nothing to lose. So they appealed the play and the runner who had just been walked was called out.

The call was a shock to both teams. It was also the right call.

This rule/call does not concern just the co-ed walk rule, but the rule governing baserunning. Rule 8, Section 1 of the national handbook:

"The baserunner must touch bases in legal order; that is 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Home Plate."

Rule 8, Section 1j states: "When four (4) balls have been called by the umpire, or when a walk is issued, all runners must touch all bases in legal order."

Nothing could be more clear. The penalty for missing a base by a few inches or by 30 feet is the same. The baserunner is out when he fails to touch the intervening base or bases, whether it's in regular or reverse order.
